Boulder Valley Velodrome Sponsor
We are excited to announce that SolarGlass is an official sponsor of the Boulder Valley Velodrome! If you haven’t already, please visit the new facility in Erie, Colorado. Whether you’re a professional cyclist or just a hobby enthusiast, we have no doubt you’ll be impressed by the Velodrome and its staff.
Special thanks to Douglas Emerson for sharing the news in his guest post below – we are thrilled to help support his vision for this exciting venture.
The nation’s newest velodrome opened its gates Jan. 1, 2015, in Erie, Colorado, and racing commenced April 4th. With this inaugural season underway, the Boulder Valley Velodrome cycling community would like to thank and welcome our sponsor, SolarGlass. Generous support from local businesses such as SolarGlass has helped bring track cycling to the Boulder area.
The Boulder Valley Velodrome was the vision of cycling enthusiasts Doug Emerson, University Bicycles owner, and Frank Banta, owner of Frank Banta Construction. For the past decade, the pair worked tirelessly to make their dream of building an Olympic-caliber bike racing track and training facility a reality. Designed by renowned track architect Peter Junek, the velodrome measures 250 meters in diameter, with 41.5-degree banking in the turns and 11-degree banking in the straights. Olympian Pat McDonough serves as its track director.
Founders Doug Emerson and Frank Banta invite the public to visit the Boulder Valley Velodrome and check out everything it has to offer. Programming caters to varying ages and interest levels — there’s a kids program, a one-time introductory class for the curious, certification for those who want to keep riding, club and open training, and racing. Saturday Night Time Trials will continue throughout the spring, and Thursday Night Racing begins May 21st. Events are open to licensed local and out-of-town racers, as well as spectators. Look for SolarGlass advertised among the balustrade signs around the top edge of the track.
