FTC Cracking Down on Dubious Energy Savings Claims

As I have posted before, in the vast majority of cases, energy savings resulting from window replacements will be modest and in no way cost justify the replacement decision. Check out this story highlighting the Federal Trade Commission’s efforts to reign in such claims.

Ironically, I received a direct mail piece yesterday that said i could save up to $266 per year off my energy bill if I replaced single pane windows – which I don’t have – with “energy efficient ones”.

Unfortunately, I understand why these claims continue to be made. My hope is that the consumer learns enough to reject the claims AND the companies making them. Contact instead those companies who have a track record of clear, transparent, and verifiable record of honest and fair dealing.
